DISCIPLESHIP GROUPS

What are we all about?

What’s the purpose?

The Gospel: It’s all about Jesus!

  • What do you think the word “disciple” means?

The Greek word for disciple is mathetes and means to be a learner. Being a disciple is a lot like being an apprentice. Scripture points us to become lifelong learners of Jesus.

  • What are discipleship groups?

A small group of guys/gals who want to be learners together. It is both Organized (scheduled meeting time each week) & Organic (life on life). Discipleship is about becoming more and more like jesus.

  • Where did this plan of discipleship groups come from?

It's Jesus' model! In less than three years Jesus was able to disciple a group of unlikely men and taught them to DO and BE like Him in a way that, when released, they would change the course of human history forever. Jesus created a discipleship culture where there was an appropriate mix of invitation and challenge in the way they related to Him. He drew His disciples closer, loved them, but also gave them the opportunity to accept the responsibilities of discipleship. Jesus calls every disciple to disciple others. (Matthew 28:18-20)

AIA has adopted this mission as our mission statement: making disciples who make disciples (2 Tim 2:2). A discipleship group is a place for disciples to become more like Christ as they grow in relationship with him, with the end goal and expectation that one day they would lead their own discipleship group. In short, it's about helping others become a disciple of Jesus, who make disciples who make disciples!
